Reflecting On A Year Of Growth And Gratitude

by Judith Rodman
President & CEO

As we approach the end of 2024, I can’t help but feel an overwhelming sense of gratitude when looking back at all the fantastic work we’ve accomplished this year. We’ve hit remarkable milestones, in large part because of your continued support and belief in our mission.

So far this year, we have connected with tens of thousands of individuals in our community. Each year we continue to grow our reach and provide services and education to people not only in Johnson and Wyandotte Counties but through the surrounding area as well. We’ve expanded, and that growth is thanks to everyone who helps us each day.

Thanks are in order! The work we do daily is supported by hundreds of people—partners, law enforcement, schools, delegates, donors, sponsors, staff, volunteers, and more—all of whom deserve recognition.

Through our partnership with local law enforcement and the Department of Children and Families (DCF), we’ve provided over 400 forensic interviews so far this year. We’ve also been able to support victims of abuse through the justice system, offering vital resources during an incredibly challenging time.

I would also like to extend a special thank you to the local and state representatives who visited Sunflower House this year. It’s invaluable to see firsthand how our work with families strengthens our community. We appreciate their time and support!

Our education team has worked tirelessly to provide over 33,000 children and adults with personal safety education this year. These programs are made possible through fantastic partnerships with local schools and organizations. I want to express my gratitude to these partners for prioritizing the safety and well-being of our children and for supporting adults committed to advocating for kids.

Being able to help children heal from abuse is at the heart of everything we do. Through our partnership with PACES, part of the Wyandot Behavioral Health Network, we’ve been able to offer a full spectrum of mental and behavioral health services. This year alone, we’ve provided over 3,200 contacts for therapy working through the trauma of abuse.

Without our staff and volunteers, we would not be able to provide life-changing services to those who have been impacted by abuse. Each day, the work they put in allows us to create a safe and comfortable space for children to heal from abuse.

Finally, I want to take a moment to thank you—our generous donors and sponsors. Your support allows us to continue providing life-changing services. Without you, we wouldn’t be able to serve nearly as many individuals or grow as much as we have. Thank you for your unwavering commitment to the children and families who rely on us.

As we head into 2025 and reflect on this year, I am filled with hope and optimism. With your continued support, we will expand our reach, deepen our impact, and help even more children heal from abuse.

From all of us at Sunflower House, thank you for being a part of our journey and for your dedication to the children and families we serve. Together, we’re making a lasting difference.

Wishing you all a peaceful holiday season and a hopeful, joyous new year!
