Volunteer Opportunities
Fighting child abuse is a community problem that requires the involvement of all.
Volunteer opportunities at Sunflower House include:
Friends of Sunflower House – Friends host fundraising events to benefit Sunflower House, help with community education and outreach, and volunteer at special events throughout the year. Friends must be 18+, pass a background screening, complete a Sunflower House Volunteer Orientation and training, and attend meetings.
The Friends group meets monthly on the first Tuesday from 6:00 to 7:00 PM at Sunflower House. Visitors are welcome to attend, please register in advance and let us know you will join us!
Special Event Volunteers – Sunflower House hosts several special events annual, including our Valentine Gala, Happy Bear Golf Classic, and Music Bingo. We welcome current and new volunteers to join us for our events. Previous volunteer experience with Sunflower House is not needed to volunteer at our fundraising events. Volunteers must be 18+, have a valid state-issued ID or driver’s license, and be willing to complete a simple Raptor background screening.
Current Special Event Volunteer Opportunities:
- Shawnee Days Parade – Saturday, June 8, 8:30 to 11:30 AM (time are approximate). Click here to walk in the Parade with Sunflower House.
- Valentine Gala Committee – May to February. Gala committee members help with soliciting auction items and sponsorships to our Annual Valentine Gala. Contact Sidney@SunflowerHouse.org for more information.
Group Volunteer Projects
Sunflower House has a limited number of group volunteer projects throughout the year. Volunteer groups help us with cleaning and organizing, landscaping, event preparation, and other special projects as needed. Projects typically include groups of 3-10 and can be scheduled in advance with your group. Previous volunteer experience with Sunflower House is not needed for special projects. Volunteers must be 18+, have a valid state-issued ID or driver’s license, and be willing to complete a simple Raptor background screening.
Youth Volunteer Opportunities
Youth volunteers under the age of 18 can still help Sunflower House! Due to the nature of the work we do, we do not have on-site volunteer opportunities for children and teens under 18. However, many youth support Sunflower House by hosting gift and teddy bear drives, events, and other outreach. Please contact Sidney@SunflowerHouse.org for more information.

Volunteer Orientation
Join us for our quarterly Volunteer Orientation! You’ll have the opportunity to meet our staff, learn about our services, take a tour of our center, and find out how you can get more involved with Sunflower House. Refreshments will be provided. Our next orientation takes place:

Friends of Sunflower House
The Friends of Sunflower House is our flagship volunteer group that meets on a monthly basis and works hard to raise awareness of child abuse in our community through various community outreach events and opportunities. Event Volunteers
You can also get involved by becoming an event volunteer. Sunflower House has several community awareness and fundraising events throughout the year that need volunteer support. This is a great opportunity to get yourself or your group involved and have fun at the same time. You can serve on a planning committee or help us on the day-of! It’s a short-term way to make a big impact!
